Eccentricity in regularity

$

It has been a while since I took up my habit of posting on the blog regularly and shooting for it religiously. Now that I am trying to fall back into old patterns, I decided on doing it with a hint of eccentricity. For those who are regulars at FTLOFAOT know that an element of eccentricity is not a far cry from my regular style of outfits too. This time I decided to spice things up with a quintessential white georgette  shift dress with pin tuck detailing that I picked from my event with The Mill. Ideally if I used this dress as a summer cover on the beach, I would not accompany it with anything more than my new found round vintage sunnies. But in the city, a twist on the old classic LWD was called for. The last time I wore my 'matha patti' or this gypsy fashion inspired head gear, was here and now this. Stark opposite in style, I went from a black maxi dress to a summery white little shift. Versatility of this matha patti almost makes up for the crazy hole it burnt in my pocket. Never mind my weary budgeting tales.

Wearing:
White shift dress: Uff shop
Nude wedges with neon pink detailing: some shoe store in Australia
Gold cuff with circular cut work: C/O Eristona
Yellow clutch bag: Aldo
Gold matha patti: ASOS
Sunglasses: Forever 21
Watch: C/OSkagen, Denmark

Girls who wear pearls

Be it a pearl's natural organic origin, emanating from a mollusk or Coco Chanel's pearl donned image imprinted in our heads, pearls have always created a certain prissy intrigue that remains unmatched. Fresh water, cultured or even pearl knock offs make for an interesting twist to almost any category of ensemble. Rock and Rolla Gwen Steffani wears it with as much élan as Chanel when they manage to incorporate these beautiful stones in almost all their collections. I cannot possibly forget Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's with her pearl choker and have fancied my mother's pearls for as long as I can remember. This versatile piece of necklace that is possibly one of my oldest possessions has been reused so many times that I was almost beginning to tire of its predictability. A jumpsuit with an open back and boudoir noir peek-a-boo lace gave me the perfect opportunity to get this piece out and play with it a little. 'Back jewellery' is best worked with open backs, giving you an opportunity to flaunt some skin while not making it trashy.
Of course, an inspiration by DSquared had me at a cursory glance.

Of course, it would not be possible to create this amalgamation of monochrome and funk without the pops of colour in the form of the shoes and bag. As a self proclaimed style guru, let me leave you with a little piece of advice. It becomes magically easy to work monochrome in summers without looking dull with pops of colour on your shoes or bag or both.

So long and thanks for all the fish.
Ok, I am a Douglas Adams kind of geek.

Mixology with Pangaea New Delhi

I have always been inclined towards nocturnal life. Yes, the word play was intentional although strictly for the purposes of my blog and this post, I refer to the night life that this country has to offer. I have seen the Cindrella-esque 11 o' clock deadline in the Bangalore night life and I have seen the other variety where the party starts at 11 in the city of Delhi. Whatever the situation has been, I have always been up and about to explore a new night club or a bar for an occasional drink or two. As a woman living in urban India I do have a lot of bones to pick with the city police as far as the safety concerns go but I shall leave that angry rant for another day. More to the point, this was my first time at the Pangaea New Delhi for the bloggers' brunch and my first impression is definitely one that will drive me to go there another time. Done up tastefully with large paintings and bright chandeliers, its everything you expect from a nightclub. We witnessed their accomplished bartenders whip up some fun, easy peezy cocktails but my favourite part has to be the hands-on mixology class where I obviously spent most of my time behind the bar whipping up this interesting concoction of soda water, lime and cumen seeds and a mean-ass cosmopolitan (Ok maybe I went overboard with the sugar syrup). A stand up comic act later, I definitely knew I had learned a lot about making simple, fun cocktails and mocktails at home and how to pull a dozen funny faces. (Courtesy: the stand up comedian)For all the dilliwallahs, Pangaea is a must visit for their interesting selection of liquor and their groovy music (Mostly retro and classics for the bloggers lunch, who's complaining). For the schedules of their gigs and all their updates, hop on to their Facebook page and find them on instagram at: @pangaeanewdelhi.

Three to tango

I am sick of summers already. My clothes (even shorts and skirts) stick to my legs, even with the air conditioning draft blowing right into my hair. My hair goes cuckoo (which I secretly love as it contrasts my boring poker straight hair). And you just get crabby with the heat soaring in general. Thankfully for me, I have discovered the superwoman of clothing. Its like superwoman; utilitarian and life saving, also stylish. The voluminous, beautiful cotton maxi skirts. They are roomy and airy and if you hit the right spots (no pun intended), you can pride yourself in some beautiful coloured ones with this exquisite block print in metallics. Pair them with contrasting crop tops and you are unstoppable. Well, I am. The hero of this outfit, however, were my new man-repelling tan gladiators which gave my outfit just the right amount of androgyny what with over doze of girly.
Lets face it, I am no super human blogger with a built immune to the 47 degrees of heat outside, so my thanks are due to Smoke House Deli, Khan Market, who were so kind to let us do our monkey business in the middle of their beautiful restaurant. Also the fact that my, Three to tango mocktail served as the perfect prop (both metaphorically and literally) to my threesome in the form of a large floral printed crop top, an Indian influenced maxi skirt in silver block print and my absolute favourite and newly acquired art-deco inspired gold necklace.

The Daisy Trap

This spring-summer is all about prints. Not that we ever tire of them but cool versions of these mundane prints are now doing the rounds. The floral prints that we repeatedly worship every spring-summer have this newly acquired cool factor with the latest to jump onto the bandwagon, 'the daisy print'. From Katy Perry to Vanessa Hudgens, we have witnessed these cool A-listers give this trend a thumbs up when we found them sporting it. Now I am not one for obsessing over celebrity style blindly but if its a trend after my own heart, I am not one to shy away. And thus the story of how I fell prey to the Daisy Trap. I am not exactly of the normcore fashion tribe, but effortless and fashionable are my keywords for a successful outfit. Sometimes, as we learn from Man Repeller, the effortless should look that it comes with a lot of effort.
I mixed my prints, just like I mix my cereals (Fruit Loops and Chocos, anyone?). How would I choose to describe this outfit? Easy breezy and comfortable. With white platform strappy shoes to give me that extra boost of height (I'm kidding, I'm 5'7").
It rained while we shot this look and I'm certain the rain gods and the gods of blogging confided into each other and allowed the pictures to still come out so great. Well along with my photographer Ay, I know we are thankful.

Slick as a fox

With some things in life, you just know. It is much like love at first sight. The first time you see a movie trailer and just know it is going to blow your mind. The first time I saw green and blue reflectors on pinterest and I knew I had to have them. It was difficult to pick the colour. Much like picking between your two children but eventually I knew that the green was the colour after my heart. Then came along this maxi dress from Shopnineteen's new collection called Moonstruck which seemed to want to really get it on with my sunnies. I could not describe it better even if I tried. I just knew they belonged together. At least I came around long enough to get this interesting paint stroke print maxi dress with a thigh high slit. Its sexy and summery at the same time. I love the black full sleeved bodysuit top and the flowy silhouette from the torso. I would save these for the days when I step out in the evenings this summer. Given its black colour, its not ideal for the scorching summer heat. Shopnineteen definitely has a lot to offer and their Moonstruck collection is fun, easy peezy to style and supremely light on your pocket. Like I always say, if I don't have something to add to your shopping list, I would rather stay shut. ;)

Five things we learned from Sex and The City

$
0
0
A girl is basically falsifying the truth, if she claims to not believe in the almighty power of a good few hours of a Sex and the City Marathon. You might watch it with your good ‘ol dependable girlfriends in your favourite pjs and stained tank with all that wine and ice cream. Or you might watch it all alone and cry everytime Mr Big breaks Carrie’s heart. Or you might even watch it with your kids someday, teaching them the harsh realities of life albeit Carrie’s life is nothing short of a dream run. We all watch it, hormonal or not and it is about time we sat and evaluated all the wonderful things that we have learned from this heart warming and sometimes rib tickling tele series.
  1. Being a woman is never easy but we get by with the help of friends. Lets face it, all the Manolo Blahniks of the world do not make up for blatant sexism at work or the loneliness syndrome most single girls in their mid 30s or in our case (mid 20s) go through. It is painful to the extent that on some nights we believe we are going to die alone with our pet cat (picturing the pet cat gnawing at my face as I lie dead, undiscovered). But a good group of girl friends who know exactly what to tell you, when to tell you will get you through these rough waters.
  2. There is nothing a good Cosmopolitan cannot correct. When the world seems the most cruel place to be or when the Gods of kindliness and compassion shine on you, one thing you can always count on is a good Cosmopolitan. For the uninitiated (or boyfriends of the girls reading this), it is a cocktail made out of cranberry juice, triple sec and some vodka. I also take inspiration from Carrie since she whips up her own Cosmos at her swanky pad once in a while. Take a bartending class, go out if you have to but perfect that damn blush pink poison.
  3. Dress well or go home. Well, technically her Dior skirt sometimes stays on indoors too, so I will go with Dress well or die trying. This one I’m taking to the grave for there is little or no exaggeration when they say, dress like you will meet your worst enemy. Given the countless times the girls run into their despicable and not so formidable exs on the streets of the Upper East Side, you do not want to be caught dead in that boyfriend tee and PJs from the Flintstonian era. We live in a small, almost incestuous (what? Its true) world where everyone knows the other in some ambiguous form. If you are counting on the six degrees of separation to save you from that bad outfit day embarrassment, I suggest you watch Season 1 and 2 and all the others again.
  4. There are fish aplenty in the sea. Sure, Carrie had her happy ending but what it took for her to get there is what us lower mortals in Zara shoes instead of Blahniks, trotting the streets of Hauz Khas Village not Upper East Side Manhattan, go through everyday. Boy troubles are omnipresent and all of us have at some point wished for a world with only women and so on and so forth. Does it mean it is the end of the world? Well not for the girls and neither should it be for you. Bounce back like Samantha with her libertine sensibility or maybe like Miranda by drowning yourself in work but do it because what our local funny guy Karan Johar forgot to mention in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is that love happens, and it happens as many times as you open yourself to it.
  5. There is always hope. There are times when we are certain that this is the end of the road and no good can come out of a particular situation. Enter the fabulous foursome in their ‘clackers’ who make you realize that it is never that bad. It is never the end of the road and to the extent that it is, there is always another road…leading up to the nearest watering hole. Or even the closest Barneys and Bendals. There are more than enough sex columns to be written, many hearts to be broken, parties to be crashed, spring affairs to blossom and many a shoes to be hoarded.

The paradox of dressing up

$

It often strikes me as extraordinary, the paradox that comes along with the phrase 'dressing up'. Especially, given the context dressing up has been placed in, in this day and age. Where dressing up is mostly dressing down, keeping it clean, minimal chic and the other unending list of synonyms fashion bloggers use in their common parlance to describe effortless looks. Its a paradox that we have found ourselves completely intertwined in and at some levels, I am enjoying blurring the lines between dressing up and dressing down.
When I look at inspirations such as Jamie Beck of Ann Street Studio, I realise fashion editorials can be so much more than beautiful locales. And more often than not, Ann Street Studio does a beautiful version of minimalist photography on the blog and it still manages to capture the essence of inspiring fashion from across the world. Currently obsessed with the Cuyana campaign shot in Bali. The lethal combination of lush greenery, waterfalls and the simplicity of the clothing is enrapturing.
Now that I have disclosed that part of my brain that houses these fashion visuals, let me share the outfit that got me thinking about this paradox. I couldn't have epitomised this paradox anymore, even if I tried.

I'm batman

Kimonos are to summers what capes are to winters. Can you imagine what Fashion Weeks would be like if we didn't see at least one street style celebrity strutting it in a fabulous block coloured cape? Or even one of those fur ones? The paparazzi would have a field day looking for that one style saviour to photograph and make the street style headlines. I wouldn't say its entirely gratuitous since I truly believe in the super power of a good cape, or in this case a kimono. This geometrically inclined patterned kimono is so easy to style, you could throw it over a pair of track pants and still work it. So while I might not be batman (well, ever notice how I'm never in the same room as batman) or am I, I could still work my kimono like a charm with this lets-go-take-a-hike look. Especially with the addition of this large star studded nautical carry all from American Swan.
Would you trudge off on a getaway with this kimono and funky hold all look?

Tropical with a flourish

What do you get when you combine a bomber jacket with a vibrant tropical print and a price tag of Rs. 500? A must have? But of course, a must have. I must admit that as much as I have been lusting over the whole sporty luxe fashion movement, I have not found the ideal mix of sporty with the girly for myself. The right mix where I don't go overboard following a trend blindly and instead adapt it for my personal style. But this bomber jacket in lush tropicals demanded to be taken in just as much as this chequered white midi skirt in net did. It was interesting to see how this odd pairing would work out. Of the tropical bomber jacket and the feminine midi skirt in white net chequered in self.
I think it worked, especially with this white satchel bag and the cobalt blue pumps and the almost lack of accessories. Which trend are you flirting with this summer?

touch it before it wilts,
one more time, before the sun sets.

All my summer favourites

$

How many times have you found that one thing that you continuously obsess over for the next few weeks before you tire it out or wear it out? That one product that works wonders for you, so much so that you almost over use it death. It has happened with me as far as clothes and shoes go quite often, but this season I put together a cohesive, yet diverse list of my favourite things as they stand today. These were all sent across for reviews and I believe that has not coloured my judgment of what I think of them or why they make it to my list of favourites. Here goes:

1.
Skin Yoga Rose and Oats face wash

The rose and oats face wash by Skin Yoga is this granular powder mixture as seen in the photo above. Add a little bit of water to this amount of powder and rub and create a mixture and apply to your face.  Smells soft and nice and also cleans well. My favourite part has to be the fact that it leaves your skin scrubbed and slightly moisturised. It is not as handy as a face wash in a tube or a spray so this is not my everyday face wash but I definitely enjoy this indulgence once in a way. Find out all about this at their website and buy it there: Skin Yoga Priced at Rs. 1450 (INR)

2.
India Circus: Flower Quill Mug

The colours, the lotus feathers and prints on this mug, everything comes together to make it a delight for your house. I am sipping my green and lemon tea in this mug on days on end now and do not plan to stop anytime soon. My favourite part is that it isn't glass and yet it has the beauty of one and is such a refreshing change from the porcelain and china around. Buy it here on India Circus. Priced at Rs. 399 (INR)

3.
India Circus: Garden of ShangriLa cushion cover
This velvet cushion with the perfect scenario of the garden of shangrila as it is known creates the perfect prop for your back to sit around in all the comfortable corners of your house. A word of caution: This one is for the ultra small cushions. Buy this cutie on India Circus. Priced at Rs. 599 (INR)

4.
Holii make up pouch

The folks at Holii create bags out of natural leather and handwoven textiles. The bags have a great Indian aesthetic that is almost unseen in most leather bag manufacturers in India. What is the best part about this? Buy any Holii bag at any of their stores or on their website and get this fabulous leather make up pouch free till the 31st of this month. This one deal you want to make the best of.
As seen in the bag: (L-R) Burt's bees lip balm in grapefruit, Chanel nail paint in beige, Fleur Cherie hand cream by L'Occitaine, Green chunky ring by Forever New, Perfume by Jimmy Choo.

All products courtesy of the brands as mentioned above except the components of my bag. 8-)

Till the next time.

Strange Love

Named after a very popular song by the Kooks which also incidentally made it as a music score for a cute Coke advertisement, this post is an ode to my crazy mid season fixations with certain colour families. I need not even devote any time to emphasising how metallics are basically the florals from the 50s and 60s. I have found this new kind of love, love albeit a bit strange for all things grey and silver and this post is a testimony to that. More than the colour, it was this dolman style of the top that won me over. Its a futuristic asymmetrical hemmed poncho-like top that makes a perfect top for a snug pair of jeans. What I definitely cannot get enough of in this metal-silver frenzy are my silver pointy-toed pumps that I almost take to bed (just because I love them too much, you filthy mind).
I also have the addition of a cute nautical print baby clutch in an anchor print by American Swan which was the perfect addition to this silver crazed look.
I would have also introduced the zit that has found a home on my forehead for the last two days but I haven't named him yet. I would never photoshop the friendly bugger.

Mastering the art of throwing a bachelorette

$

Bachelorettes and bridal showers have not been a norm in our country since time immemorial. Only over the last decade or so have we seen a crazy upsurge in this particular cultural practice and boy, is it a welcome change. For all the bride-to-bes, it is that one last night where you want to hang loose, let your hair down and make it count with all your main girls. While I have also noticed a trend of a bachelorette week with some, the rest of us are not that lucky to get a week off from work to celebrate the last few days of our friends' spinsterhood especially since we look for more holidays over the wedding celebration anyway.
To the meaty discussion now, I scoured the internet like a spy looking for clues to throw the best bachelorette for my best friend. While there are some articles out there, nobody wants to think more in detail than the obvious, get away with your friends etc.
Of course, a get away is a wonderful idea if you have that kind of time at hand and I would suggest that if you plan to get away, do it at least a month prior so as to stock up on your leaves ahead (This is for all of you women who have crazed work schedules like most of us).
While if you are going to be in the city, here are a few pointers to keep in mind while throwing a bachelorette to make the experience memorable not just for the bride to be but also for everyone attending.
  • The first thing most people think of when they think bachelorettes are the crazy amount of paraphernalia associated with this celebration. From sex toys to kinky hand cuffs, drinking board games to customised balloons, everything needs to be given enough detail. If you are looking to throw a down and dirty bachelorette then this article is not for you since I am personally over the whole male anatomy cake movement. Keep it classy. Make sure you keep your friend's taste in mind which is why I kept everything refreshingly girly and fun. Polka dotted balloons, bride-to-be-balloon, a kinky pink furry hand cuff just for the element of fun, customised badges keeping in mind all the girls who are going to be wearing it and the works.

  • The second thing that most people do not give much thought or importance to are the party favours and how those tie in to the party. My searches yielded a few ideas of creating hang over kits for everyone which included bandaids, a box of disprin and some crisps etc. As cool as that idea is, I wanted to do something of my own and tie it into the party. So my party favours were specially picked bright coloured Nyx lipsticks for all the girls. It was placed in their glass before they came in and when they picked their lipsticks, they had to wear it for the rest of the night, keeping it in the theme of the loud, bright girls' night. Safe to say, everyone loved their shade.
  • The third thing that I gave a lot of thought and emphasis to was the cake. The other option always is to customised cupcakes with cute fondant figures like bikini tops, bottoms, lipsticks, a bottle of champagne etc, but I was quite keen on a cake. Ensure that you do an in-depth research on the cake bakers in your city and choose the one who gets exactly what you need. I spoke to my baker in depth so much so that she knew how I wanted the insides of the cake to be! Be a pain but make sure it is the perfect cake. As far as the question of what cake to get goes, I skipped the trashy perverted connotations for a classic timeless Victoria's Secret cake with interesting pink ruffles peeping out. It looked and tasted divine and my research paid off. The other peppier options available these days are cake pops and if you live in a metropolitan city, those could be customised in colours and toppings too.
  • I did not obviously take photos of everything since after a while I just wanted to concentrate on having fun and obviously not share all the photos from a personal night. :) Another important aspect of the night if you plan to notch it up real high is the right champagne. We popped pink bubbly which I thought was appropriate given the theme of the night. I opted for Moet and other pink option is Chandon. Two ideal pink champagnes.
  • The aspect where I found most articles really unimaginative was the part about what games should follow the customary cake cutting, champagne popping. There are the obvious options of drinking roulette, which I must admit is quite fun but it is important you come up with games that engage all the girls throughout the night, depending on what you plan to do. I planned a bar crawl across the best bars in the city with a rule to consume different liquor at every bar, so the games had to up the ante too. These are two game ideas that I found and had a blast playing with the girls. Since many painstaking hours were spent finding it, I guess its time I share my research with the world to benefit many others.

  • Most importantly, whatever activity it is that you choose to highlight at a bachelorette, make sure it is keeping in mind what the bride-to-be will enjoy. Take a lot of photographs, do not sleep and ensure everyone wakes up with at least a mild hangover. Mild embarrassment in public is also due and should be on your agenda. (Fight with the DJ, drinks and conversations with random couples, hugging the bouncer, weird dance moves, some ideas that are tried and tested and can comfortably be spoken about on a public forum). The rest I shall leave up to your imagination. :)
I hope a few of these pointers and tiny detailed references help. The images are not of the finest quality and I am sure you could understand why. Make sure you give the bride-to-be a night that she will not forget and do it in your own style. There is nothing people love more than a party that screams of your effort and enthusiasm.

The quirk mania

The girls at Blueprint Coleccion, Divya and Navya are designers after my own heart. From clever tailoring to unexpected silhouettes to use of great fabrics and finally, to great use of interesting motifs and unexpected details, this label checks all the right boxes. I have had the immense pleasure of working for their digital magazine in the past with looks you saw here and here. When they sent across this high-low hemmed dress in this quirky chilly print this season, I had a whirlpool of ideas to style this dress. I narrowed it down to upping the quirk factor and decided to do bouts of colour with it. A whole lot of bling, bright colours to complement the quirky chillies and the debut of my whacky scissor double finger ring made for a great contrast. This look can qualify as quirky as well as elegant given that the hairdo and the makeup was in slight contrast to the quirkiness. The white platform sandals which are definitely a summer favourite give the shift dress a complementing boxy feel. Without dwelling much on how amazing it was to style this uber quirky dress, let me share the look with you. Check out their page to know more about their label and where you can buy their pieces.

Piece de resistance

It has to be counted as a perk of being a fashion blogger when you are exclusively introduced to labels that you might not have encountered till that point. If you have in the past seen or invested in one of the timeless pieces by That's Thefft, then consider yourself darn lucky. When I first saw the lookbook of this particular label, I was in a state of awe since each garment by designer Mihika of That's Thefft is painstakingly hand embellished. The designs are truly modern and chic and definitely for a modern day diva. Having known to be a self confessed embellishment and sequin lover, I decided to pick this 'Ibbie' dress to style since its rich, yet Indian brocade element in a full skater silhouette posed a challenge. The belt created at the beginning of the skirt with chunky red gems and a plain black blouse of the dress both fall in fashionable harmony with the gold brocade. The stiff brocade makes the dress appear grand in all its glory. I decided to give it a raw Indian feel with complementing red and gold jhumkas and a sturdy leather and rose gold Daniel Wellington watch. The 'I-woke-up-like-this-hair' (just kidding, I have to put in a lot of effort to even slightly curl my poker straight hair :/) seemed like the right idea with the combination of the brocade, the jhumkas and the bright red lips. Street Chic

Anything that floats your imagination. Anything that makes you break out of your shell. Anything that gives you wings. You can own any style that catches your fancy. Because frankly, the only rule that I play by when it comes to my sartorial choices is that there are no rules. The only fashion rule that I have played by for as long as I remember is going by my instinct. I love inspirations and I love my share of world street style blogs. But the final verdict on any look that I create is by answering one simple question, "how true to my style will this be?"
I'm gearing up for the exit of this balmy summer season. And fall definitely is the herald of all things grey and oxblood. This dress put together with my black and white buckled heeled loafers seemed to liberate me in a way that a flouncy dress or A-line skirt could not.
With a dash of gypsy gold and a bag that epitomises all that is right (or wrong) with our generation, I came to a conclusion that this is my idea of street chic.

In an attempt to create some fantastic eerie, gothic yet reminiscent of a lot of elegance kind of photographs, we managed to ruffle a few feathers in the mall. (Read: mall guards)
Does that make any difference in the larger picture where I got to combine the stunning and classically elegant jewellery by Minawala and the magic of the make up brushes of the talented Sakshi Malik in Delhi. The answer would have to be a no.
The idea behind picking these particular jewellery pieces and this kind of styling was to create an editorial that highlights the versatility of this jewellery. The long chandelier earrings with successive flowers, the chunky statement ring with the use of rubies and diamonds and the classic bracelet with a spray of diamonds in a structural format could work wonders with your lehenga for your best friend's wedding just as much as they could with a snake print camisole and leather pants a la Pantera loving rocker chic.
There is no marriage that works just as harmoniously as that of the right jewellery and the right make up. Make up artist extraordinaire Sakshi has worked on a dramatic look complete with false eye lashes and full oxblood lips and smokey eyes to complement the shades of winter and fall as seen in the jewellery.

The make up artist Sakshi Malik can be reached on instagram and twitter at username: sakmalik

The break up of the make up used:
Started off my prepping the skin with himalaya cleanser and toner. Followed by biotique morning nectar moisturising lotion. Then I applied the 'stila one step correct' primer with a foundation brush. I used MAC studio finish concealer in shades NC 42 and 35 on the under eyes, forehead, under the lower lip and also on the sides of the lips. Then I used 'bourjois healthy mix foundation' in shade 56 all over the face, neck and ears with a stippling brush. I contoured the cheeks, jaw line and nose with foundations in shades 'almond' and 'warm walnut' from my Bobbi Brown BBU palette. Also used my MAC bronzing powder in shade 'matte bronze' on the cheek bones. Secured it all with MAC translucent powder.
Eyes- first applied my eye primer by 'two faced'. Then used a cream pigment in pearl from my illamasqua reflection palette. Used a pearly eye shadow from my NYX palette on top. MAC Prunella to line the eye lids and blended that with MAC eyeshadow 'sketch' and used it on the crease line. Also used black shimmer eye shadow from my NYX palette on the crease line. Defined the eye brows with black eye shadow from my screenface palette. Mascara used was 'great lash' from maybelline. And used fake lashes 'sultry' that I got from primark, London. Used prunella under the water line too to give a smudged effect. Last I used 'rice paper' from MAC on the brow bone as a high lighter.
Cheeks- contouring with the Mac bronzer.

Lips- prepped with a lip balm. Then applied MAC lip pencil in shade 'nightmoth'. Used revlon lipstick in shade 'black cherry'.

Chanel Spring 2015: A call for a cause or a call for attention

When the Chanel models took to the asbestos streets at Palais de Tokyo at the Paris Fashion Week, their choice of cry for protesting was feminism. But is it really embodying feminism?
Ever since I saw the show, complete with its theatrics of eyebrow maven Cara Delevingne taking to protesting against inequality between men and women into a Chanel megaphone, I have been slightly perturbed by the nature of these theatrics. Now I am not someone who studied gender deeply, but with a basic understanding of gender and law and what really entails feminism, this feeble attempt by Karl Lagerfeld to make Chanel ready-to-wear a part of second wave feminism missed the mark. His idea as I read on Style.com was simple, "my mother was a feminist, and I was brought up with a history of that." Completing his thought, given how 'cool' the concept of being feminist has become in this day and age where every average woman without a real understanding of the issues with gender norms or gender inequality, claims to be a feminist, it seemed like the right vendable move. Are we, in the process, over simplifying feminism? In my opinion, yes. Do beautifully tailored pant suits on typically beautiful models suffice to carry forward the desired message of feminism? Probably not. The idea of feminism in sartorial choices is wonderful except I failed to see anything that had not been said before. Women have been taking to pant suits like fish to water since the late '60s ever since the induction of this androgynous piece of clothing in our wardrobes. The collection highlighted khaki, tweed with a hint of psychedelic, pin-striped with a lacquered sheen, skirt suits with lacey blouses, leather stripped dresses and knitted sweater dresses. The collection was on point with the luxurious use of fabrics and bringing a whole bag of elegant to the table. But do slogans on the lines of 'Be different', 'free freedom', 'history is her story', 'women's rights are more than alright', really convey the essence of this zeitgeist called 'feminism? Why are we lapping up everything that is the current politically correct flavour of the season, in this case feminism?
A creative director known for having called Adele, 'a little too fat' preaching a feeble sermon of feminism to the fashion world and the world at large is resounding hollow and downright fallacious.
We all love a little drama on the runway but this is when we ask ourselves the larger question? Should the drama ever overpower the clothes?
I believe that fashion has the power to be a purveyor of great social and political messages. I do also believe that a surreptitiously worded slogan hinting at some kind of equality between men and women does not create an impact that a cause like this deserves.
Sorry Karl, this Boulevard of Chanel did not create the fashion Bastille that you hoped it would.

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week kickstarted today and is it politically incorrect to say that the shows were just about lukewarm? Are we taking the same trend and showcasing it in the same permutation combination? Or can I look forward to more exciting shows in the days to come?
Alpana & Neeraj's 'kawaii' themed Japanese line with minimalistic design and lot of bow detailing made for a beautiful runway presentation. Hemant-Nandita played with ikat and used some great '70s inspired silhouettes that made you think a retro funner summer resort line.
Meanwhile, us bloggers have a tendency to run our own little fashion show off the runway. I went sporty luxe with a tinge of gothic. A Dhruv Kapoor sweatshirt in bonded jersey and mesh paired with leather skinny pants made for an almost androgynous look. Of course worn with those shoes my mother would never approve of but I adore.
Just an insight into Day One's outfit. Here's to hoping for better shows tomorrow.
